FOR THE EARTH

This is a photoshoot I found in Above Magazine. Its about Elettra Wiedemann, Isabella Rossellini's daughter. It spoke about the work she did in Africa.
I love these photos. They represent the environment and even the four elements if you look closely. Ashleigh spoke about using the four elements as an idea for our photos, as matches represent fire. I thought we could take some ideas from this article and turn it into our own, like the crown out of twigs could be used to represent fire.
It could also be about using what matches are made from, wood.

EARTH WIND FIRE AND WATER

Ashleigh and I had a chat about other ideas. And she came up with the earth, wind, fire and water theme, it came from what the matches are made out of (wood) and also what it creates when it is lit. I love this idea a lot! it also gives us a lot more chance to do some interesting styling.

BACK TO MY IDEA

Right. After going with the consumerism idea, I had a thought about different themes we could go into, and as for my initial idea I have found another example of using sheer see-through fabrics to give the illusion of fire. Even though the fabric is black I can still see it is about fire because of the way it is floating upwards.

PROJECTOR

Adam and Moira's test shoot to see whether location shots could be used onto either the mannequin or model. But as you can see it would have left nothing for Ashleigh and I to work with in terms of styling. And as for location it would not enable us to work with a lot of different lighting and the weather at the moment is so temperamental that we chose to use the studio instead.

LOCATION, LOCATION...

Moira and Adam went to take some location photos around Preston to see whether our shoot could be done outisde whether than in a studio. The next step is to see if location would work or if the photos could be used in any other way.

EDIE THE MANNEQUIN

This is Moira's lovely find- Edie the mannequin.
This is a test shoot that Adam and Moira did with it for lighting and positions.
The different shades of colours really bring a new edge to our idea. It makes it look very surreal. And is also a reminder to Thomas Couderc and Clement Vauchez.

POUR LES GALLERIES LAFAYETTE

Some more ideas for merging... This is another find of Moira.
Thomas Couderc and Clement Vauchez.
Beautiful.
Also to think about- using different lights.

IDEAS

An idea was to use both a real life model and a mannequin and merge the two on top of each other- to create a real/ fake effect. and also to link in with the consumerism theme.

PIERS ATKINSON

This is just brilliant! Piers Atkinson is an amazingly creative hat designer. And this was his A/W 09 collection, based on Barbie Dolls and childhood heroes, like Mickey Mouse and Kermitt the frog...

NIGEL TOMM

Moira found this photographer who took photographs of models and instead of leaving the printed image alone, he would scrunch the images up, creating a distorted body shape. This really fits with 'breaking the mold' and consumerism. It is such a good find from Moira!

JUST A BIT WEIRD...

This photoshoot is amazing! it's wonderfully weird!
I think it fits with the consumerism side of our idea, as the mask makes the model look the same in all the photo, it also makes it hard to decide which gender he/she is...

STEFANO PILATI

These images follow the idea that Moira had about consumerism, and that everybody looks the same. Using Barbie dolls to re-create perfect beauty and body shape.

'Stefano Pilati, the Yves Saint Laurent designer, is a man obssessed by feminine beauty and the elegant glamour of a world gone by, a place in the mind where beauty is so absolute it becomes almost abstract. Sometimes nostalgic, sometimes playful.'

Miniature clothes and accessories were fabricated especially for this shoot, which took place in a Paris apartement. The dolls portray the screen stars of his dreams- the diamonds, the perfect hair and make-up, the fantastically long legs, the camera, the action.

HELMUT NEWTON

So we had our first group discussion and we spoke about taking the word 'match' in its original context, the idea of how everyone now matches because of what they are wearing and the mass production of clothes. We thought of looking into mannequins and how they all 'match' and as in our matchbox there is one match which is broken, we could have a real model mixed with all the mannequins but dressed to stand out and be different. Helmut Newton came into our heads very quickly as his photos almost show women as lifeless mannequins.

FIRE

I just found this on my Dazed Digital email.

Its the new Rankin solo show called 'EAT ME NAKED'
Ok I admit I don't really like what he does (personal preference), but this image really sparked up an idea for this new photography project.

The idea of using silk/ satin material to give the idea of fire is something from the styling point of view which is very interesting. I could use pieces of clothing and turn them into something different other than their original purpose. Using the right shades of colour, making them look like fire or anything else relating to that idea.

I LOVE IT

McCain's Chips Advert.
This is just brilliant!

PENGUIN

This was my last assignment of my 1st year, I had to create a range of glasses/sunglasses for any chosen brand. As you can see I did glasses for men, for the brand Penguin.

MATCHES...

Copyright Marie Benli.

So this is our new group assignment, we had to pick an object and ours is this exact box with two matches in it, including one which is broken.
Now what we have to do is to find ideas for a photoshoot that revolves around this box...
